The great resignation has begun and so many people are asking the question "What do I do with my life now?" Here's the story of two people I spoke with recently. Their names and other identifying details have been changed but their stories are universal. If you are someone who aches to help people find their direction in a world that keeps changing, read on, this is for you!

*********

"What do I do with my life now?"

That’s a question that so many have been asking mid-pandemic. And so, so, many people need help answering that question.

Morgan’s Story:

Morgan is on vacation for two weeks in the tropics. It’s the first time that she’s been on vacation since the pandemic started. She’s so thrilled that she can safely travel now. She’s been working back-to-back, 12-hour days for over a year now. On the last day of her vacation, she has a breakdown – tears, anxiety. She says that she’s felt like herself, for the first time in over a year, on this vacation. And she’s afraid to go back to work, afraid to feel the way she felt - performing, but overwhelmed, depleted and emotionally drained – coping with a never-ending stream of patients in the clinic where she works.

She is ready to quit. Her life feels like all she does is meet the demands of work. As much as she thought she’d found her vocation, caring for people, she is asking herself - Is it worth having no life? Is that all there is?

Tanya’s Story:

Tanya is a management level employee in a hospital. She has a secure job that she was content to keep – building a side-hustle based on her interest in coaching, teaching and guiding people to discover their potential.

But covid shortened her fuse. She couldn’t ignore the micro-aggressions that she was experiencing. A Black woman, she’d been asked to participate on the diversity, equity, and inclusion committee. She accepted, hoping she could facilitate change – but now she is drowning in the ignorance of some of her white colleagues, trying to be nice, trying to be helpful – until it has all become too much. She has headaches, digestive complaints, no energy. Her doctor even put her on a heart monitor, for observation, for a weekend. She is truly worried that this job is going to kill her. She’s taken a leave of absence. She’s determined to find herself again. She’s got to make a change. Her life depends on it, but she doesn’t know where to start.

Both Morgan and Tanya are examples of the kind of life and career angst that people are feeling after almost two years of a world-wide pandemic. Add to that the grief of loss and fear.

The pandemic led to layoffs, closings, overwork, understaffing & remote work. Zoom became a household word. Client service jobs mean you have to diffuse anger. Everyone has a short fuse. Patience has left the building.

The predicted great resignation has begun.

Forbes reports that in September 2021, 1.4 million people quit their jobs.

When people are asking “What do I do with my life now?” they need a new kind of career coaching.

They don’t need help figuring out how to climb the corporate ladder or how to create a 5-year plan, a resume, or a LinkedIn profile.

They need help finding themselves, claiming who they were born to be rather than who they were programmed to be, and creating or re-defining their work so that they can be that – and the result of that gives purpose and meaning.

The pandemic pause got people to STOP. We had space – away from obligations. And because we’ve been so stretched in coping with the uncertainty of covid, we haven’t been able to pretend that we’re happy when we’re not.

And while some bonds were strengthened – the weakest bonds were broken. Relationships either prospered or died. And the same thing is happening with work. When you stop lying to yourself about your truth – the genie is out of the bottle, you can’t shove it back in.

I love the way Emmanuel Acho, Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man, created an acronym for denial – Don’t. Even. Know. I’m. Lying. (Yeah, yeah – know is spelled with a “k” not an “n”. Think of it phonetically people.)

Here’s how I see the impact of the pandemic:

Millions of people, in the western world, have just escaped an erupting volcano, and the volcano is still erupting, and people are dazed and confused – lost trying to find their way back home. They are being told to go back to normal. But what’s normal? The volcano is still erupting. What do they do now? Whose advice do they follow?

They don’t know where to go from here, or what to do. They are in real danger of going back to a non-sensical life, and they have a small window of opportunity to create meaningful work.

But they need help. And that’s where Soul’s Calling® coaching comes in.

Soul’s Calling Coaching isn't traditional career coaching or life coaching. It’s a combination of career development, spiritual psychology, and life coaching. It is designed to move people though life transitions and help them create a concrete manifestation of their purpose.  The concrete manifestation of their purpose can be paid work, a business, a non-profit organization or a movement, a side-hustle or a passionate retirement project.

Purpose is concrete, not a philosophical concept.

It’s something we do – and whether it’s paid work or not, work is what we do, and how we find fulfillment.

Soul’s Calling Coaching is career and life transition coaching that turns people’s gaze inward, so that they can see themselves and discover meaning and purpose – and only then, do they turn their gaze outwards and make their purpose concrete. It provides the roadmap for all the dazed and confused people who are seeking an answer to the question “What do I do now?”, and guides people from where they are to where they need to go to find meaning.

At the Soul’s Calling Academy, we are training coaches and facilitators for this time of transition in the world. People are seeking meaning and purpose and that's what our coaches are trained to do.

If you’re a born or experienced helper, healer, teacher or guide or even if you’ve already trained as a coach, but you are looking for a concrete way to help the world, getting certified as a Soul’s Calling Coach may be the way for you.

It helps people find their answers to the questions that are rarely asked out loud like:

  • Who am I?
  • What’s most important to me?
  • What was I born to do?
  • How exactly do I discover what my genius is and what my purpose is?
  • How can I do what I love, and still thrive in the world?
  • How can I create meaningful and purposeful work that makes a difference?

It’s deep work, that is super concrete at the same time.

Soul’s Calling® Coaches & Facilitators: guide people through the programming that they are unconscious to, that has kept them stuck; unravel their thread of purpose; help them to define & claim their genius; and then create a concrete manifestation of that purpose as their work.

And all Soul’s Calling Coaches start first with themselves. You must be congruent – the same person on the outside as you are on the inside to effectively teach and guide others to congruence.

This work has a big world changing mission.

Soul’s Calling Coach & Facilitator training is infused with a deep, deep belief that our job as healers, teachers, leaders, & guides is to shift the world to one that works for all of us, not only a few.

  • Imagine if we all knew that we mattered?
  • Imagine if we all did what we were born to do, not what we were programmed to do?
  • Imagine if we remembered that everyone was gifted and we were encouraged to discover and use those gifts?
  • Imagine what life would be like for the generations that follow us, and so on and so on?
  • Imagine the healing and renewal we could bring to the planet?

You can contribute to this mission by becoming a Soul’s Calling Coach or Facilitator.

Applications are open for Soul’s Calling Coach & Facilitator Training on Tuesday November 30.

It’s an intimate and hands on 6 month training program, for a small group cohort and we accept a maximum of 12 people per cohort.

Our promise is that you’ll discover your purpose, learn how to help others do the same and create your unique way to bring your work to the world in the way that fits you best!

Please join us and let’s get on with changing the world!

Big love,

Bev
